Why to participate
The ERASMUS Intensive Language Courses (EILC) are specialised coursesin the less widely used and less taught languages organised in the countries where these languages are used as teaching languages at higher education institutions. The languages English, German, French and Spanish (Castilian) are not eligible for EILC. The EILC give ERASMUS students visiting these countries for studies and placements the opportunity to study the language concerned for two to six weeks with the aim of being prepared for the ERASMUS mobility period abroad.The 2010/2011 EILCs take place in the following countries for the eligible languages in brackets: Belgium (Dutch), Bulgaria (Bulgarian), Cyprus (Greek), Czech Republic (Czech), Denmark (Danish), Estonia (Estonian), Finland (Finnish and Swedish), Greece (Greek), Hungary (Hungarian), Iceland (Icelandic), Italy (Italian), Latvia (Latvian), Lithuania (Lithuanian), Malta (Maltese), the Netherlands (Dutch), Norway (Norwegian), Poland (Polish), Portugal (Portuguese), Romania (Romanian), Slovakia (Slovak), Slovenia (Slovenian), Spain (for the languages Basque, Catalan , Galician and Valencian), Sweden (Swedish) and Turkey (Turkish).
Who can participate
1. Organisers:ERASMUS intensive language courses can be organised by higher education institutions holding an EUC or other organisations specialised in language training.
2. Participants:
Students registered at a Higher education institution holding an ERASMUS University Charter, who have been selected for an ERASMUS study or placement period in one of the European countries. Students whose main subject of study is the language of the country organising the EILC are normally not eligible to participate. Comenius and Grundtvig Assistants may also participate, provided that there is a surplus of places on a course.
How to apply
1. Organisers:Organisers of EILC apply to their National Agency at the beginning of the year. Organiser can apply for several courses in two semesters.
2. Participants
Applications shall be submitted electronically to the students' home institution, which will be responsible for forwarding the application to the EILC organising institution directly. Comenius and Grundtvig Assistants apply directly to the EILC organising institution. Applications shall be sent electronically.

Duration of the EILC:
Between 2 and 6 weeks (at least 15 hours a week and 60 teaching hours in total). The courses usually take place in September/October and January/February.Good to know:
- Erasmus students may not be charged a study fee for participation in an EILC course. However, fees may be charged for excursions and similar optional events and for other charges that - Erasmus students normally may be asked to pay.
- Erasmus students, Comenius and Grundtvig assistants from all countries participating in LLP can apply to participate in the courses.
- Erasmus students, Comenius and Grundtvig assistants notice you can choose your EILC location independently of your future host institution location.
- EILC host institutions will form groups of participant with around 15 students/assistants.
- University of Nova Gorica can offer 15-20 beds in Presta students' residence in Nova Gorica (rent 100-110 EUR/month/double room; 150 EUR/month/single room) to the participants of their EILC summer 2010.
EILC host institutions could be:
- Higher education institutions holding an EUC
- Other organisations specialised in language training
